The project is based on a synthesis of three aspects: reinterpretation of traditional Korean architectural and philosophical ideas, program requirements, and advanced urban analysis methods.

The draft master plan addresses the concept of circularity, which manifests itself as the ability of space to adapt to different time and weather conditions through spatial zoning and building features.

The urban analysis uses agent-based modeling methods. A thorough study of amenities and infrastructure contributed to the analysis and simulation of visitor behavior. The site analysis was conducted using digital modeling, which provided information on throughput and visibility, which influenced the choice of zoning concept. Adaptability allows the site to accommodate different activities and events, which creates different levels of privacy and viewpoints.

The project is an art platform that allows new forms and ideas in art to be formed through discourse. To provide conditions for communication, the main volume blocks the noise generated by traffic.

The site includes a large plaza that overlooks the river through a sloping beach bordered by a café to the southeast and Yeonja-ru to the southwest. The plaza is thus capable of accommodating large-scale performances and exhibitions simultaneously, providing different types of spaces depending on the need. The quiet but visible area of the plaza is where Pal-ma-bi moves.

Art Center

The main building is located in the northeast of the site, reducing noise from the main street and creating a large plaza in the center of the site. The L-shaped shape of the building gradually tapers off towards the café and the river on one side, and the green space on the other, creating a continuous landscape. Its highest point coincides with an exhibition space capable of accommodating various types of art, which, in combination with the plaza, allows for open-air exhibitions and events. The eastern part of the complex, equipped with a media façade that provides communication with people informing about the exhibitions and events held in the art center, also becomes a canvas for contemporary forms of digital art. The center structure is made of reinforced concrete with a large span, which allows for the placement of various types of art. The disabled parking lot is located on the northwest platform of the complex. The service area is located along the northern facade, providing access for trucks and personnel, and providing a fire passage.

Visitor Center

The Visitor Center is combined with the Art Center. It is located in the most visible and busy area of the site. The Visitor Center provides all the necessary facilities for tourists, and is also connected to the main square.

Yeonja-ru

Yeonja-ru is the main focus of the site. Being placed in a visible and quiet area by the river, it can provide a place for contemplation and be easily recognized as the symbol of Suncheon. Meeting the fundamental ideas of the original Yeonja-ru, the new symbol interprets them in modern concepts, using the structural logic of Dugong, as a recollection of traditional structural and material principles, which also helps maintain the lightness and transparency of the structure. The curvilinear form creates a range of spaces for people with different needs, providing different levels of privacy.

Café

The café is located in one of the most active areas of the site, framing the entrance. It is organized as a walk-through pavilion with views over the river.
